Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that an orthopaedic surgeon uses to observe and treat problems within a joint.  The surgeon uses a small incision to insert a camera and light which produces a real time video of the inside of the joint.

Benefits of Arthoscopy:

  •   It is an outpatient procedure.

  •   The incisions are small so there is a shorter recovery period than open surgery.

  •   The procedure may be combined with a surgical procedure to repair the damage in the joint.

Knee Arthroscopy

Knee Arthroscopy is suitable for treating a wide range of knee issues including torn ligaments, cartilage damage, and patellar dislocation.  An orthopaedic surgeon can determine if this is a suitable treatment option for you.

Hip Arthoscopy

In Hip Arthroscopy, the surgeon makes a small incision to see into the affected joint area.  He can also insert other instruments into the hip to remove loose tissue, smooth cartilage, or remove bone spurs.  The window of opportunity to be a good candidate for this surgery may be limited as the conditions that cause the pain can lead to arthritis.
