knee recovery

A smooth recovery depends on following the follow-up care instructions.  You can be an active participant in healing by keeping the wound dry, following your medication protocol, and working on your rehabilitation exercises as indicated.

General Information
Recovery length for traumatic injuries varies greatly depending on the part of the knee that was damaged and the severity of the injury.  An orthopaedic surgeon can help you to understand the expected recovery time for your specific situation.
Recovery length from knee replacement surgery varies from person to person.  Most individuals will begin walking on the same day as surgery and will be able to go home with some support.  Most are able to return to regular daily routines in 3-6 weeks and after 3 months may be able to return to low impact sports.  After 4 to 6 months, most patients are doing really well.  Patients can expect to continue to improve for the next year or two.
